Targeted
Wage Subsidies
Program Objectives
· To assist unemployed Employment Insurance
eligible individuals experiencing difficulty in finding
work to benefit from on-the-job
work experience; and
· To enable employers to hire individuals who
face barriers to employment by offering temporary
wage subsidies, which they would
not otherwise hire.
Duration
· Unemployed Employment Insurance eligible
individuals who have difficulty finding work due to
employment barriers are assisted
in locating an employer who will enter into an agreement
with the Service Canada Centre to
provide the individual with employment. The agreement
with the employer can be approved
for up to 78 weeks.
Eligible Participants
Eligible participants are those who, pursuant to the
Employment Insurance Act, are unemployed individuals,
and at the time of applying for the Targeted Wage
Subsidies Program:
1. for whom an unemployment benefit period has been
established or has ended within the 36 months
prior to the date of requesting assistance; or
2. for whom a benefit period that included a maternity
or parental claim within the 60 months prior to
the date of requesting assistance, after which the
individual remained out of the labour market in
order to care for a newborn or newly adopted child
and is now seeking to re-enter the labour force.
